Sunshine yellow velvet ribbon circular weaving

This is a vintage inspired velvet weaving made from deadstock vintage velvet ribbon on a velvet wrapped metal hoop. This is a one of a kind artwork, made by hand. I love this ribbon, which would ordinarily have been heading for landfill and I really enjoyed making something new and beautiful from it. 

All of my circular weavings are such an integral part of my practice as an artist. I usually make them at times of high emotion, to quiet my overactive mind. Once I get started with a weaving, it becomes a meditative experience, with a definite beginning and end. Each piece takes roughly a day to make from start to finish. This helps me to unwind, leaning into the movement of winding the weft in and out. I get so much peace from making these pieces of art and I experience just as much joy from seeing them in homes and businesses who have chosen them to be part of their day to day. 

It is a large weaving at 50cm in diameter. It is such a beautiful piece to hang above a fireplace or with other artwork on a statement wall.
