Hot Pink vintage inspired velvet circular weaving

This is a hot pink vintage inspired velvet weaving made from deadstock vintage velvet ribbon on a velvet wrapped metal hoop. This is a one of a kind artwork, made by hand. I love this ribbon, which would ordinarily have been heading for landfill and I really enjoyed making something new and beautiful from it.

All of my circular weavings are such an integral part of my practice as an artist. I usually make them at times of high emotion, to quiet my overactive mind. Once I get started with a weaving, it becomes a meditative experience, with a definite beginning and end. Each piece takes roughly a day to make from start to finish. This helps me to unwind, leaning into the movement of winding the weft in and out. I get so much peace from making these pieces of art and I experience just as much joy from seeing them in homes and businesses who have chosen them to be part of their day to day.

This weaving is 30cm in diameter. It is such a bright and cheerful piece to hang above a fireplace or with other artwork on a statement wall.
