Calming pink silk circular weaving

This weaving is big and beautiful. At 70cm in diameter it makes a real statement on a wall above a fireplace or on an art wall. The pink is tonal due to the nature of the reclamation process. 

It is made from 100% silk on a silk wrapped metal hoop. This is a one of a kind artwork, made by hand.

The silk that I buy is completely sustainable and is made from recycled silk fabric left over from sari manufacturing in India. It is handmade by women artisans in rural India and supports the livelihoods of these talented women. 

All of my circular weavings are such an integral part of my practice as an artist. I usually make them at times of high emotion, to quiet my overactive mind. Once I get started with a weaving, it becomes a meditative experience, with a definite beginning and end. Each piece takes roughly a day to make from start to finish. This helps me to unwind, leaning into the movement of winding the weft in and out. I get so much peace from making these pieces of art and I experience just as much joy from seeing them in homes and businesses who have chosen them to be part of their day to day. 

This piece is so bold and yet due to the tonal nature of the colour, completely relaxing to look at. I love this big and beautiful weaving.
