2020 weaving
This tapestry weaving shows the weeks and months of this year coming together. It is made from cotton, wool and recycled sari silk. The variation in texture and shades of grey and black represent the year. The woven part measures 33cm x 27cm and the length from the top of the dowel to the ends of the fringing is 68cm.
/THIS YEAR WAS NOT LIKE OTHER YEARS/
This project has been ongoing throughout 2020 from March until December.
The weavings represent the changes and challenges of this year and also the moments of joy.
The range of colour, subtle in places and dramatic in others show the changes we have all adapted to this year.
The lighter parts represent the space created by the world as we knew it coming to a halt for many in March.
The darker parts represent the struggles of this year, and our human ability to be resilient and overcome.
Woven together, they show the ups and downs of a unique year.
I am forever grateful that I have had my artistic practice this year to stay creative.
This body of work is a snapshot into my 2020.
